Profile

31st December Women's Movement (31stDWM) is a broad-based development oriented non-governmental organisation in Ghana initiated in 1982.Our goal is to empower women socio-economically, politically and culturally by harnessing the enormous potential and creative capacity and capability of women in Ghana who constitute over 50 percent of Ghana's population. Our belief and motto is to empower women by any means necessary, and our vision is an equitable society of empowered women whose roles affect national affairs significantly.

Objective

Help women develop a positive self-image; Bring awareness to the virtues of womanhood; Raise the political consciousness of women while encouraging their full involvement in policy formulation at all levels in society; Provide a channel for seeking opinion of women on government policy; Create opportunities for women to develop and improve their skills; Give women the tools to actively participate in their national economy and hence contribute to poverty reduction; Lobby for the abolition of customs, laws and practices that impede the equal participation of women in the society and in national affairs; Lobby for the creation of laws that protect women and children against discrimination; Establish a relationship with local and international women's groups to learn from their experiences and share ours.
